The three different types of meters include the accumulation meter, the interval meter, and the smart meter. The accumulation meter measures the total electricity consumption and the electricity retailer provides a flat rate. An interval meter measures the amount of electricity consumed every half an hour, so retailers are able to see how much electricity you are using on a day-to-day basis. Lastly, a smart meter is a meter that does not require a meter reader to physically come and observe the data – the meter sends the information electronically to the retailer.
